| Calendar of Events The Sunday School at St. Peter’s meets from 10:30 – 11:15 on Sunday mornings in the undercroft (basement) of the Church. This Christian Formation program is for all children of the parish includes participants from 3 years old to young teenagers. This is an active program designed to develop community between the students as well as teaching about a life of faith.
We use the “Weaving God’s Promises” curriculum, which includes education about the Episcopal Church and its customs as well as the Bible and many activities and topics having to do with diversity and justice in our world.
We use the natural beauty of our area to teach children as well. In the fall we include hikes along with Bible stories. One example is a hike to the top of a hill where they view Penobscot Bay and talk about the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount. The fall also includes apple picking and making cider and pies for the Loaves and Fishes program and coffee hour. The winter includes sledding and in the spring a time at the beach and reading the story of Jesus after the resurrection appearing to his disciples over breakfast.
There are activities especially designed for older elementary and young teens such as a “reader’s theatre” which is written by the students and performed for the congregation during a Sunday liturgy. Special youth services are held once each season, where all of the liturgy and music is geared toward active, young minds and hearts.
Come join a joyful, active and interesting group of people whose Christian lives are formed in our Sunday School.
The Sunday School is led by Kirsten Staples and Joe Cox. Other parent leaders participate as well and members of the congregation also share their time and particular experience or passion, as it connects with the development of a life of faith.
